Bottle caps are the last thing separating the beer-drinker from his favorite beverage. As such Crowns, as they are known, are crucial in their design. A good crown design stands out among the bottle necks protruding from a cooler or a snowbank. It should say "Pick Me" in a figurative sense, much like the key to room #1 called to Norman Bates when Marion Crane checked in to the family hotel. Removing a crown should provide just enough resistance so as to make the effort anticipatory, yet not unpleasantly daunting. The appearance of the creasing metal closure should complement the hiss of wet carbon dioxide and the cold gentle spray of beer on one's fingers. The bent bottle lid should rest at a jaunty angle on the bartop - not too acute, and invoke a message of fond remembrance of a beer well-drank. The crowns in this auction are some of the highest-functioning crowns in the hobby.
